Taraba PDP chides APC over attack on Assembly candidate

 From Jethro Yerga, Jalingo

The Taraba State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party PDP, has chided the State chapter of the All Progressives Congress APC for mobilizing a severe attack on its House of Assembly Candidate of Donga Constituency, Hon. Douglas Yahaya Ndatse, which left several people with varying degrees of injury.

Addressing a press conference, Tuesday, the Publicity Secretary of the Party, Mr. Irammae Andeta’rang, said it took the grace of God for the candidate, Hon. Cap. Yahaya Ndatse ( Rtd), who is also the serving member of the constituency, to escape the calculated, well timed and unprovoked attack.

He disclosed that the convoy of the candidate and present majority leader, Taraba State House of Assembly, Cap. Douglas Ndatse was heading for campaign at Bibinu Community, along Mararaba Donga road, ahead of the Saturday, 18th March, 2023 general elections.

Andeta’rang who expressed dismay over the ambitious and over zealous way the APC was going about its campaign in the state, cautioned the party to conduct itself inline with the rules and guidelines of electoral act rather than indulging in violent acts that would jeopardize the  peaceful conduct of the elections.

In his words, ” what do you gain from stepping on dead bodies before entering office? Is it not best to tell the people what you can do for them and then allow them to decide weather to vote for you? We feel that it is by been decent that God will bless you. But when you resort to violence without minding weather you step on dead bodies before entering office, I don’t see God blessing you.

“We want the general public to look at this frightening angle of the posture of APC in the current quest for leadership acquisition in the state. Equally, we want to call on APC to rather concentrate on reaching out to the people for her candidate if at all it has one rather than indulging in fraudulent acts that are capable of truncating peaceful elections and democratic process in the state.” He added.

Mr. Andeta’rang further debunked the claim by the former Nigeria Ambassador to Trinida and Togo, Ambassador Ardo Jika where he previously alleged that the Taraba State chapter of PDP was planning to rig the forth comming election.

The Publicity Secretary who described the allegation as surprising and ridiculous, noted that since 1999, the people of state had entrusted their mandate to PDP and the party together with the leaders it had produced had kept faith in all her dealings in the state in terms of deliverance of dividends of democracy, adding that Taraba State was PDP and PDP was Taraba State.

“That is why we have been wining from 1999 to 2019 and by the special grace of God, we shall do it again in 2023. As a party, we don’t believe in cutting corners. We don’t short changed our partners in the race. All we do is to deliver on what we promised to do for the people. So it is ridiculous for someone to accused us of planning to rig election.” He stated.
