Police detain officer over killing of youth in Taraba.

The Taraba state Police command has detained one Sergeant Haruna Idi for the brutal killing of Oliver Ezra.

Ezra who was identified as the driver to the Lau Local Government Chairman was shot by the Sergeant at the police checkpoint in Lankaviri.

The young man was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre Jalingo where he gave up the ghost.

Shortly after his death, youths around the city took to the streets holding placards that read “Justice for Oliver” to express their grievances over the unfortunate incidence.

One of the protesters Mr Biru Illiya who spoke to newsmen said all they want is Justice for their friend and an end to police brutality.

“We demand Justice for Oliver, and also an end to police brutality. We are not here to fight, we have come because we are pained and unhappy about this development. We are therefore asking the Government to act fast and get Justice for our brother” he cried.

While addressing newsmen at the Police Headquarters in Jalingo, the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Sokoya said the incidence was unfortunate and that the command is doing everything in it’s power to look into the matter and ensure that the pepetrator faces the full wrath of the law.

He also assured the family of the victim that the law will take it’s due course and justice will be served as criminality will not be tolerated by the command.

Meanwhile the Political adviser to Governor Ishaku, Hon Abubakar Bawa while addressing the protesters at the Government house enjoined them to be calm and allow the law take it’s course.

He sympathized with the family and the protesters and assured them of the government’s readiness to bring justice to their brother and also to ensure that such does not happen in the future.
