Taraba State’s Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project supported by the Worldbank has successfully transitioned to its second phase of implementation.
This milestone was announced during a technical mission led by Acresal Project Task Team Lead, Joy Iganya Agene in Jalingo, Taraba State.
During the opening ceremony, Iganya congratulated the Taraba team for achieving this feat after reassessing and gaining deeper insights into the ACReSAL project.
“Taraba has progressed from stage one to stage two of the project implementation. This mission will help identify areas of progress and those requiring more work.”
Iganya emphasized the importance of teamwork, noting that “there’s healthy competition in ACReSAL, and funds can be accessed based on the state’s ability to implement. However, this requires collaboration.”
Abdulhamid Umar, National Project Coordinator, commended the SPMU staff and encouraged further collaborations to drive the project’s success.
The Commissioner for Environment and Climate change Haj Aishat Barde in her welcome address thanked the world bank team for their support for the state’s ACReSAL and assured them that the team will not rest on their oarse until the project is fully implemented.
She also mentioned some notable achievements that the team has recorded. “I am pleased to announce that our engineering design and catchment management plan have been cleared, subject to the incorporation of necessary corrections. We sincerely appreciate the World Bank Task Team Leader for this clearance, for believing in Taraba State, and for the continued confidence in our commitment to this Project” Barde said.
The state Project Cordinator Dr Yakubu Giwa Clement on his part also highlighted some of the projects executed by the SPMU staff while enjoining the worldbank team to continue giving Taraba the support needed to do more.
The ACReSAL project aims to promote sustainable landscape management practices in northern Nigeria, focusing on climate-resilient agriculture and natural resource management.
