FIFTEEN ADAMAWA PDP COUNCILORS BEATEN TO STUPOR AT MEETING CALLED BY GOV. FINTIRI

BY EMMANUEL SAMUEL, YOLA

Three months ahead of the People’s Democratic Party Local Government Party Councilors Election, Party members are already fighting dirty as Fifteen Local Council Councilors, were on Sunday beaten to stupor on the alleged orders of the Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.

Our correspondents authoritatively gathered that the Councilors, representing the 15 council wards in Michika Local Council, were said to have been invited to Yola, the state capital, by one Steven Maduwa on the instruction of Governor Fintiri.

Members who sustained various degree of injury and are not in the good books of Steven Maduwa includes, Hon. BItrus Pagwe leader legislative Arm Michika, Hon. Somalia Yohanna, Hon. and Lassafi T. Fama respectfully.

Maduwa who is a noted political associate of Fintiri, was said to have lodged the Councilors at Homtel Motel, where they were manhandled by tugs led by Maduwa’s driver, Abdulrahman Bodes (A.K.A Slanty).

It was gathered that during a meeting with the Councilors, Maduwa informed them that Governor Fintiri had directed an immediate change in the leadership of the Local Council legislative arm.

Shocked by the bizarre directive said to have emanated from the governor, leader of the Councilors, Bitrus Pagwe, protested thus,

“Sir this matter is a democratic affair. Because we were duly elected, how would the governor, who was a legislator himself, give such an order?”

Angered by Pagwe’s audacity to question the governor’s directive, Maduwa beckoned on a ready army of tugs who pounced the Councilors.

Some of the major stakeholders, like the former House of Representatives member, Adamu Kamale, present member of the state Assembly from Michika, Ayuba Kwada and others scampered out of the hall on sensing that the meeting was skewed to forced the Leadership of the Councilors to resign.

Confirming the incident, Peoples Democratic Party Chairman in Michika, Ezekiel Kwaji, admitted that “there was a move to force a change in the leadership of the councilors which led to a scuffle, but I cannot confirm that anyone ordered the fight.”

When contacted however, Maduwa angrily told our Correspondent,”go and write whatever you want.”

On his part, Maduwa had a sometimes ago threatened to assassinate a Journalist for publishing what he (Maduwa) termed unpalatable story against Fintiri.

Speaking on behalf of the Adamawa State Government in a phone call, the Director General Media and Communications, Mr. Solomon Kumangar declined to respond on the matter as at the time of filing this report.
