Armed Forces hold inter-denominational service to commemorate remembrance day in Taraba

As part of activities marking the 2025 Armed Forces celebration and remembrance day, the commands of the Armed Forces in Taraba State, have organized an inter-denominational service in Jalingo, the State Capital

The service which held at the Catholic Church Cathedral Jalingo, attracted men and officers of the various commands in the state and offered a chopine where personnel of the Nigeria Armed Forces in the state came together to pray for their members still serving, retired and discharged officers, the disabled officers and leaders of the armed Forces among others

Delivering a sermon during the service, the Catholic Bishop of Jalingo Diocese, Bishop Charles Hamawa, charged the Armed Forces to put God first in all their ways and never compromise in the course of discharging their constitutional responsibilities no matter how they are pressed or tempted

Citing several Biblical injunctions including Psalm 127:1, the Bishop stressed that God is the architect of security and so “unless He builds the house, those who build it labour in vain and unless He watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain”.

He commended the courage of Nigeria Army and urged them to always remain professional in the discharge of their responsibilities to retain their integrity

“The principle of do unto others as you would want them to do unto you should always be your watch word. Do not take advantage of your position to moles and harass innocent civilians”. He added

The Bishop who encouraged the Armed Forces to always knock and seek for all they need from God as it is written in the book of Mathew 7:7-8, further urged the Armed Forces to look at the yearly event beyond mere celebration exercise, but also as an intercession and thanksgiving session for the grace and mercies of God upon men and officers of the Armed Forces

He further called on governments at all levels to prioritize the welfare of Armed Forces and grant them freedom and independent to operate without interference

In a goodwill message, the Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/ Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, lauded the synergy and timely actionable intelligent  information that goes between the sister agencies, especially in the previous year and expressed hope that they would continue to work together to secure the lives and property of citizens of the country

Gen KC Uwa commended Governor Agbu Kefas for his support to the Armed Forces in the state and pledged that they would not rest on their oars in their constitutional duty of securing the state and Nigeria at large

Earlier in his speech, the Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas, w-o was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the State SGS, Gibon Kataps, commended the determination of the Nigeria Armed Forces in safeguarding the state and reiterated the determination of his government to support them in discharging their duties efficiently.

Recall that the Armed Forces celebration and remembrance day is observed on every 15th January to commemorate the servicemen of the Nigerian Armed Forces. The event also honours veterans of the World War I and II as well as the Nigerian Civil War.

The Armed Forces in Taraba State commenced the 2025 edition of the event on Friday with Jumat prayers at the Muslim Council Central Mosque and hoped to windup at the Joly Nyame Stadium on Wednesday 15th January, with Wreath laying and remembrance day parade.
