E- el-Kabir: Taraba FRSC Command moves to prevent accidents, organizes mega rally

As part of its efforts to ensure a safe monitoring environment among all road users and minimize the rate of accident on Nigeria roads to the barest minimum, especially during the Salah celebration, the Taraba State Command of the Federal Roadsafety Corps, Wednesday organized a mega Campaign rally in Jalingo, the Taraba State Capital.
Addressing throng of road users who turned up at the event, the Sector Commander FRSC Taraba State Command, CC Celina Williams said the rate of accident in the country and particularly in Taraba State had not reduce to the desired level hence, the Command would not rest on its oars towards insuring that road users continue to obey traffic rules at all times.
The Sector Commander who stressed the need for drivers to avoid alcohol and drug abuse when they intend to travel, called on Motor Park authorities to liaise with the State Government and other Security Agencies to stop sales of alcohol and dangerous drugs withing the vicinity of motor Parks.
She advised that any driver observed to be drunk or under the influence of alcohol should be stopped from driving as the situation is tantamount to suicide mission if permitted to drive.
Highlighting some of the common precautionary rules each and every driver must have at his or her finger tips, the Sector commander emphasized that, drivers must avoid night trips, over speeding, over loading, route violation, wrongful overtaking and above all, always obey all traffic regulations among many other rules.
She commended the Taraba State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Arc Darius Dickson Ishaku for the revolutions brought to bear in the state especially in the area of road constructions across the state and urged road users to take advantage of the good gesture and make gains rather than lose their lives.
CC Selina equally applauded the cooperation of Stakeholders, all the different transport unions as well as traditional rulers and clergy in the state for their various supports toward achieving safety of roads in the state.
In his speech at the occasion, the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Arc Darius Dickson Ishaku cautioned vehicle owners to always ensure that they employ the services of only qualify and accredited drivers to handle their vehicles.
The Governor who was represented by the Director of facilitation at the Taraba State Board of Internal Revenue, revealed that the State Government was making frantic efforts to remove all illegal and unorganized motor parks across the state to improve safety of roads and transport system in the state.
Governor Ishaku who emphasized that Safety on Nigeria roads is every one’s business, commended the Taraba State Command of the FRSC for always living up to its responsibilities and pledged that, the State Government would continue to support the Command in all ways to improve the safety of roads in the state.
Earlier in their separate goodwill messages, Dr. Grace of Specialist Hospital Jalingo, the Chairman, Tricycle and Motorcycle Association of Nigeria (TASCOTMAN) Abdulahi Bello, Rep of Kur Bali. HRH Alh. Sambo Adamu and the chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), all commended the Taraba state Command of the Federal Roadsafety Corps under the leadership of the Sector Commander, CC Selina Williams, for the giant strides it has been making in the state to keep the state’s roads safe for all road users.
The guest who pledged to take the good news to their subjects, urged road users to make good use of all that they learnt at the occasion, adding that It’s only the living that lives to celebrate.
The chairman, TASCOTMAN however appealed to the State Government to make provision for bus stop for tricycle riders in the state to reduce congestions especially around the City Gates.
“We also appeal that, the State Government should call on the contractor handling the overhead bridge at the Road Block to reduce the distance of the U-turn that goes into Owoniyi Motor Park and bring it close to ease entrance in the park by vehicles coming around Wukari axis to Jalingo”. He added.
Meanwhile, the Mega Rally which had the theme “Avoid night travel and drug abuse, maintain passengers record”, also offered free eye medicare for drivers and other road users. The occasion was graced by the various heads of Security Agencies, traditional leaders, different transport unions as well as other road users across the State.
