Governor Agbu Kefas has signed into law two key bills passed by the Taraba State House of Assembly;the Taraba State Sports Commission Establishment Law No. 10 of 2025 and the Taraba State Youth Development Agency Law No. 11 of 2025.

The signing ceremony took place on Monday at the Governor’s office, TY Danjuma House, Jalingo.

Under the new law, the Sports Commission will regulate and promote sporting activities across the state, with a focus on harnessing physical, mental, social, and economic benefits for both individuals and the larger Taraba community.

Similarly, the Youth Development Agency will serve as a structured platform to address the needs, aspirations, and challenges of young people in the state. Its objectives include empowering youths through education, training, and skills development, promoting entrepreneurship and job creation, and enhancing youth participation in governance and decision-making.

Speaking shortly after assenting to the bills, Governor Kefas commended lawmakers for their cooperation and commitment to Taraba’s growth. He described the Assembly’s reforms as in line with his administration’s vision of transforming the state into a hub of development and opportunity.

He further emphasised the importance of collaboration between the executive and legislature, noting that “checks and balances remain crucial for meaningful progress.”

On his part, the Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. John Kizito Bonzena, lauded the significance of the new agencies, stressing that sports and youth empowerment remain vital tools for promoting unity, integration, and productive engagement of young people.

The new laws, he added, reaffirm the state government’s commitment to investing in the future of its youths and harnessing the unifying power of sports for social development.
