CSN boycotts parent body CAN elections, directs members to vacate election premises.

The Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), Taraba State chapter has boycotted the 2024 Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN) elections slated for today the 7th of November, 2024 and directed all her members who are contesting for key and minor positions as well as delegates to back down and vacate the elections premises.
This was contained in a Press release signed by the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN) Taraba state chapter Bloc Head, Very Reverend Fr. Dr. Williams P. Awoshiri and made available to newsmen in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital.
The release copied CAN President, all Bloc Heads and communications departments of the Catholic Diocese of Jalingo and Wukari, respectively.
The release indicates that, after prayerful deliberations and careful consultations, the hierarchy of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN Bloc) in Taraba state which comprises the Catholic Bishops of Jalingo and Wukari Dioceses directed that her members did not participate in the process of bringing a new leadership of CAN in in Taraba state.
“Our reasons among others are as follows; the supremacy of the CAN constitution as enshrined in Article 4 paragraph one of the CAN constitution has not been respected; historical antecedents which shows that the CSN has never ever assumed the office of the CAN Chairman since the creation of our dear state has not been upheld,” the release reads in parts.
According to the statement, the above reasons has necessitated the action. “Due to the above reasons and the act that, justice, equity and fairness has not been meted us, we are hereby boycotting the parent body CAN election.
“All our major and minor contestants are hereby, directed to stand down. More so, all CSN delegates are directed to vacate the premises of the electoral process.”
