By Jethro Yerga, Jalingo
The Tiv Cultural and Social Association (TCSA) Taraba State, has inaugurated 5 man committee across seven Local Government Areas of Taraba State to manage the affairs of the association in the interim and prepare for the election scheduled on the 5th December, 2020 in the Local Governments.
The committees are to be headed by Msugh Mtomga in Wukari LGA, James Ihua in Ibi LGA, Oliver Shaou in Takum LGA, Asase Abaji in Donga LGA, Dooior Torkura in Gassol LGA, Shima Dennis in Bali LGA and Elijah Ansho in Gashaka LGA respectfully.
Inaugurating the committee last Friday at Camp Lavet Hotel, Jalingo, the President General of the association, Comr. Joshua Ayagwa said the inauguration became necessary owing to the fact that the tenure of the Local Government executives had since expired.
“As you all know, we have dissolved the Local Government Executives with effect from 28/10/2020 and a 5 man committee has been constituted to manage the affairs of the association in the interim and prepare for the election scheduled on the 5th day of December 2020 in all the LGA of the state. This has become necessary because the tenure of the LG executives has since expired but they insist to perpetuate themselves illegally as Local Government officials and frustrate elections”. He said.
While urging the committee to be committed to their assignment and promote peace in their various Local Governments, the President General called on all the Tiv people in the state to embrace peace and give development a chance.
“As you go back home to carry on your legitimate assignments, I urge you to establish a good rapport and friendly working relationship with the executive chairmen of your various Local Government Councils as well as traditional and community leaders”. He stated.
The President General recalled that in his inaugural speech, he pledged to restore peace in the areas crises had affected the Tiv people of the state and now his exco is on the right track to fulfill the pledge.
He noted that, in view of the search for peace, he had engaged the Governor, Arch. Darius Dickson Ishaku, the traditional rulers, including Aku-Uka, Gala of Donga, Chief of Ibi and Kpanti of Takum as well as other traditional and community leaders shortly after his inauguration and their responses for peace restoration was remarkable.
Comr. Ayagwa said he was happy the governor has already put in place a committee for resettlement and rehabilitation of displaced persons starting with some areas in Wukari Local Government but appealed to the governor to extend the resettlement bid to all the affected areas in Wukari Local Government as well as other affected Local Governments in the state.
Responding on behalf of the newly inaugurated committee, Mr. Dooior Torkura, appreciated the association for finding them worthy to serve in such capacity and pledged that they would not let them down but do everything possible to justify the confidence reposed in them.
In his remark, a Personal Assistant to the Governor of Taraba State, Hon. Kura Kurason who responded on behalf of Tiv government appointees, congratulated the committee and urged them to maintain diligent and faithfulness in the cause of discharging their various responsibilities.
Hon. Kura said as government officials, they would do their best to see that the mantra of ‘give me peace I will give you development’ of the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Arch. Darius Dickson Ishaku finds it way in the practical terms among all the people Of Taraba State.
