In a bid to foster unity and curb rising social tensions, the Taraba State Government has intensified efforts through the Taraba State Bureau for Peace and Conflict Management (TSBPCM), a body established by Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas to engage key institutions in peacebuilding initiatives.

On Wednesday, August 6, 2025, officials of the Bureau, led by its Chairman, Bishop Innocent Rubiruka Solomon, paid a courtesy visit to the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Taraba Chapter, in Jalingo.

The visit aimed to strengthen collaboration and deepen joint efforts toward sustaining peace across the state.

During the meeting, Bishop Solomon congratulated the new CAN leadership under Very Rev. Father Dr. Williams Peter Awoshiri and expressed the Bureau’s desire to partner with CAN in fostering peace.

He lauded Rev. Fr. Awoshiri’s dual pedigree as a clergyman and academic, describing him as a blessing to the Church and society.

Highlighting Governor Kefas’ vision, Bishop Solomon noted that the establishment of the Bureau reflects the governor’s deep commitment to peace, unity, and proactive conflict resolution across Taraba. “This Bureau was set up to provide a strategic and institutional framework for addressing conflict and promoting lasting harmony in our communities,” he said.

In his response, Rev. Fr. Dr. Awoshiri reaffirmed CAN’s core mandate as a peace-promoting institution, referencing the teachings of Christ who repeatedly declared, “Peace be unto you.”

He described peace as central to the gospel message and emphasized the role of the Church in nation-building through dialogue, understanding, and cooperation.

He pledged CAN’s full support for the Bureau and commended Governor Kefas for his bold initiative in establishing an agency dedicated to peace and conflict management, stating that such foresight is essential for the progress and stability of the state.

The visit marks a significant step in forging strong partnerships between government institutions and religious bodies in the ongoing mission to entrench peace and social cohesion in Taraba State.
