Taraba Min of Budget joins WASPEN in the fight Against Malnutrition in Africa.

The Taraba State Ministry of Budget and planning has joined the West African Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (WASPEN), the Institute for Dietetics in Nigeria, Light Up Initiative and Taraba News in the fight against malnutrition in Africa for the first time in Jalingo, Taraba State Capital.
The Theme of the campaign “Educate, Empower, and Eliminate” leading the fight against Malnutrition in Africa targeted communities in Taraba where the prevalence of malnutrition is high such as Ardo- kola, joroboto, and Mafindi in order to attract government and Non-governmental organizations to take proactive steps in curbing malnutrition in such areas.
The campaign also aimed at educating mothers on proper dieting for their babies which consist of food diversification, exclusive breastfeeding practice, and proper hygiene which are the safest ways to combat food insecurity in the country.
Dietitian Grace Steven while addressing mothers during the campaign encouraged women be active participants in the welfare of their homes through cultivating a mini garden at home, proper food storage and learning a trade to help sooth the harsh economy.
In a bid to support the campaign the CEO of the Light Up Initiative Dr. Grace presented each mother in all the communities visited with a pack of whole grain cereal specially prepared to help the babies Nutrition and guide the mothers on how to prepare simple but nutritious meals for their babies .
As a way of gratitude the coordinator of Mama to Mama, Hajiya Saratu Ibrahim Mamman,thanked the Taraba State Government for joining it’s affiliate in the fight against Malnutrition in the state and she also encouraged women to join in the fight by been supportive to their husbands.
