Comr. Gabriel Yough of NAN re-elected as NUJ Correspondence Chapel Chair.

Comrade Gabriel Yough of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has been re-elected, chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Correspondence Chapel Taraba state Council to serve the Chapel for another three (3) years.

His victory came after defeating his opponent Comr. Chuwang Jude at the just concluded Chapel’s election held today in the NUJ Correspondence Chapel hall, Jalingo the Taraba state capital.

Comr. Gabriel pooled a total of 22 votes while, his opponent Comr. Chuwang pooled 11 votes. Other elected officials include; Cletus Bernard of the Radio Nigeria as Vice Chairman, Femi Bolaji of the Vanguard Newspapers, Secretary, Lamini Cletus of the AIT, Assistant Secretary.

Others are; John Mkom of the Leadership Newspapers, Treasurer, Okerafo Atta of the Daily Times, Financial Secretary, and Jamila Abba of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) as Auditor general.

While declaring them duly elected after a successful election, the electoral chairperson, Comr. Janet Audu Nyajon, congratulated Comr. Gabriel Yough and his team over their victory and charged them to uphold the confidence reposed in them by their members by doing the needful for the collective good/interest of all.

She equally congratulated those who lost out of the polls for pursuing their mandates to a logical conclusion and urged them to support the new leadership with their sound ideas and initiatives.

In his acceptance speech/vote of thanks, Comr. Gabriel, thanked his colleagues for finding him worthy to serve them as chairman for yet another tenure while reinstating his unwavering commitment, dedication and determination to consolidate his past strides for more progress of the chapel/members within and even beyond Taraba state.

“Esteemed colleagues, I stand here this afternoon before you in humility to accept the outcome of this elections which returned me as the chairman. I believe that for you to trust me for another three (3) years is not a small opportunity and I do not take it for granted.

“I want to appreciate the members of the Chapel, I also want to appreciate the electoral committee for conducting a free, fair, peaceful, credible, transparent and acceptable elections. This is a given example for politicians to see because when you conduct a free and fair elections, there will no riot,” he stated.

He maintained that the election was credible enough and as such even the losers did not demonstrate any sense of remorse. “Even those who couldn’t make it practically demonstrated it here by congratulating the winners. I believe that as a union we ought to be a model to other unions and the nation,” he said.

However, the NUJ chairman Taraba State Council, Comr. Matthew Eliud Jen, while administering oath of allegiance congratulated the winners as well those who lost at the polls emphasizing that, everyone is a winner.

He also, appreciated the Correspondence Chapel of the NUJ for exhibiting high sense of maturity before and during the elections and urged them to keep it up.

Comr. Chuwang on his part, congratulated his opponent and his team on their victory and pledged to support them at every point.
