The Citizens for Liberation in Africa, have condemned in strong terms the continuous attacks on Hon Alexander Mascot Ikwechegh, member representing the good people of Aba North /South Federal Constituency of Abia State.

In a press statement issued and signed by its president Mr. Daniel Fishim and the secretary, Emos Musa in Abuja, the group said the continuous attacks on the Lawmaker for assaulting Mr. Stephen Abuwayseya the Bolt driver by civil society organisations and individuals were outrageous and unbearable .

The statement said even though the lawmaker was wrong, he was quick to apologise to the public and instead of accepting his apology in good faith for showing remorse, the public chose to condemn him without looking back.

It added that when the matter came up, the police quickly intervened and called the the lawmaker for questioning, before he was released.

The statement noted that the House of Representatives where Ikwechegh is serving as a member, referred the committee on Ethics and privileged to investigate him and come out with a resolution.

According to the statement, even though the lawmaker quickly tendered an unreserved apology to the victim and the general public, it is bothersome that civil organisations and individuals continued to bombard him with insult and condemnation.

The president called for calm, stating that human beings are bound to make mistakes, however, when one shows remorse, it should count as something.

The statement further added, that Hon. Ikwecheghs quick response to the matter before the public show that he is a good citizen and a leader to reckon with, the statement added.

The president of the liberation for Africa, therefore cautioned the public and the civil society organisations to show respect to the law enforcement authority handling the matter and also the House of Representatives who are on the matter in order to allow them conclude the case rather than distracting them.

Mr. Fishim also said that, people who are condemning the lawmaker were quick to judge because they did not know what transpired between the him and the driver, that led to the exchange of words , but the most important thing is for them to settle the matter and move on.

The statement further said that the lawmaker is a down to earth man who has served his people very well right from the time he was elected local government chairman of Bende Council, and up the the very moment of his service as lawmaker, he never molested nor look down on any body.
