TSU authority warns against indiscriminate information on student’s death

Taraba State University authority has issued a public notice, restraining both students and members of the general from giving indiscriminate information on student’s shocking death.

The Head of Department, Mass Communication Taraba State University Jalingo, Dr Destiny O. Apuke,issued the notice via his Facebook page on Saturday the 13th of September 2025.

Dr. Destiny Apuke while reacting to the incident, urged all his students and the public to desist from making further explanations pending the outcome of Police investigation.

“Please, to all mass comm students and the public, desist from further explanations of what happened to our student and allow the police to do their work.
“The Department is not pleased with the different narratives coming from our students and the general public. When the police is done with investigation, the department will make an official statement over this incident. Let’s be guided,” he stated.

Recall that a female student of Taraba State University, Jalingo was on Friday the 12th of September 2025, discovered dead in her alleged boyfriend’s apartment located along Dr. Ralpha Memorial Guests Street Bakkasi Area, opposite the Vice Chancellor’s Gate.

The deceased, identified as Comfort Jimtop Oliver, until her death, was said to be a 100-level student from the Department Mass Communication, Taraba State University, Jalingo.

Investigation further revealed that the deceased student hailed from Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.
Although, her family member who is resident in Bakkasi where the late Comfort was residing before her death, confirmed the incident but declined to speak further and directed our Reporter to consult with the Police who are currently investigating the matter for details.

In a swift shocking display, Emmanuel Kefas, who’s true identity is yet to be ascertain though alleged as boyfriend to Comfort Jimtop, was also discovered dead on Tudiri Yelwa Road in the evening hours of Friday the 12th of September, 2025.

Sources alleged that late Mr Emmanuel Kefas committed suicide due fear of apprehension and possible imprisonment for murder.
This unfortunate incident no doubt, has thrown the entire University Community into deep mourning, with students and staff expressing shock and fear of the unknown.

At the time of going to press, there was no official reaction by the police to this medium, even as all efforts to reach the Taraba State Command of the Nigeria Police Force proved abortive. The Police Public Relations Officer, Lashen James, neither pick several calls made to him nor respond to several text massages send to line.
