Taraba SWAN inaugurates new executives, charges govt to prioritize sports

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Taraba state chapter has elected/inaugurated new executives who would steer the overall affairs of the association in the next three years.

The election/inauguration took place on Saturday in the Conference Hall of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Center, Jalingo the Taraba state Capital.

Those who were inaugurated include; Sani Suleiman of the FRCN, Chairman, Charles Akpeji of the Guardian, Secretary, Ruth Rimamsikwe of the Information Chapel, Treasurer, Nahun Sule, Financial Secretary and Mansurat Sadiq Moyoyo of Haske TV, Welfare Officer, respectively.

The SWAN outgoing Chairman Comr. Joachim Dangana in his remarks, thanked God and everyone who contributed to the success of his tenure. He highlighted numerous achievements of his administration and charged the new leadership to build on them to place Taraba SWAN to unimaginable heights.

He cautioned members of the Association against Religious sentiments and other forms of sentiments that may mar the image of the Association, stressing that SWAN is a united body that respects every individual irrespective of where they come from.

In his acceptance speech, the SWAN new Chairman Comrade Sani Suleiman, thanked his members for finding him worthy to serve them in the next three years and promised to leave no stone unturned to ensure that SWAN Taraba state is taken to greater heights. Comr. Sani equally appreciated his predecessor, SWANECO and the National executives for ensuring a peaceful, free and fair elections.

In his remarks, the SWAN N/East president, Isaiah Benjamin Bako who was represented by the SWAN North east zonal vice president Ahmed Amshi congratulated the new leadership and charged them to work tirelessly to revive and promote sporting activities in the state.

The Taraba state NUJ chairman Comr Matthew Eliud Jen who was represented by the NUJ Financial Secretary Comr. Viashima Sylvanus, also congratulated the SWAN new leadership and promised to support and collaborate with them in the interest and common good of all.

He also, called on men and women of the pen profession to always uphold integrity in the discharge of their professional duties adding that, it is only then,people can respect them and the media/journalism profession.

Relatedly, the NUJ Correspondent’s Chapel Chairman, Comr. Gabriel Yough also, congratulated the SWAN new executives and tasked them to live up to expectations. He equally assured them of their full support at every point.

Several SWAN veterans who spoke during the event,including the General Manager of Gift FM, Mr Sadiq Moyoyo appreciated the past Exco of the Taraba SWAN and encouraged the new leadership to do more in the interest and progress of SWAN.

They equally called on Governor Agbu Kefas and the government of Taraba state to prioritize sports and invest more in it owing to its Economic, health and developmental roles as well as its role in the unity of the state/nation.

High points of the event was oath taking by the new Exco, presentation of certificates of returns among other activities. The event attracted many high profiled personalities from far and near.
