Taraba: Gov. Kefas Clears Air on Rumoured Appointment of New Deputy Governor

By Daniel Mtindiga, Jalingo

Governor Agbu Kefas has dispelled rumours regarding the appointment of a new Deputy Governor for Taraba State.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday at the Executive Council Chambers in Jalingo, the Governor stated that no new Deputy Governor has been appointed to replace Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Alkali, adding that such a decision would only be made if and when necessary.

He urged the public to disregard the speculation, describing it as fake news spread by mischief makers who do not mean well for his administration or the state.

“I have heard the discussions in the media and among our people about the fact that our state has been without an active Deputy Governor for several months. I understand the concerns and questions, and I want to speak directly, not just as your Governor, but as a fellow human being guided by faith, morality, and conscience.

“Our Deputy Governor fell ill while serving Taraba State faithfully and on official duty. This is not a political matter—it is a human one.

“I have no hidden agenda in the way we are handling this matter. If, in due course, circumstances require us to act in line with the constitution regarding his position, I will not hesitate to do so. But for now, our duty is clear,to care, to support, and to let compassion lead us. This is not just about politics, it is about humanity.

“The constitution provides us with laws to follow, and we have complied fully. But laws alone are not enough; morality and conscience must also guide our decisions,” he stated.

Governor Kefas called on Tarabans to keep the Deputy Governor in their prayers, support his family, and uphold the principle that in Taraba State, leadership places humanity above politics.
