Hunger responsible for the protest in Nigeria -Fr. Awoshiri

The Vicar General Administration of Jalingo Catholic Diocese and Chaplain, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Chaplaincy, Taraba State University Very Reverend Fr. Dr. Williams Awoshiri has attributed the ongoing protest to the severe hunger in the country.

Fr. Awoshiri stated this while delivering his sermon today at the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Chapel, Jalingo.

“It is obvious and we don’t need a prophet to tell us that there is so much hunger in the land.

“One decent square meal is virtually difficult for everyone.Prices of products/food items are on the rise every minute while people’s incomes/earnings are unarguably very low,”he lamented.

He further emphasized the need for government to be fair in her policies and decisions especially those that have to do with the common man stressing that,the common people struggle to vote during elections to benefit true democratic dividends.

“The government should be fair in her policies and decisions especially those that pertains the common man in the street.

“These poor people suffer to during elections so they can enjoy the dividends of democracy,”he added.

He however, called on well to do individuals to come in and compliment government emphasizing that, government alone can not do everything.

Similarly,he called on the government to cut down their excessive expenditures and luxurious lifestyles exhibited by many government officials and channel the resources to the economy to better the lives of citizens.

” A lot of people are blessed so,they should come in and compliment the government.The government can not do everything.

“Government should also cut down their excessive expenditures and luxurious lifestyles exhibited by many government officials and inject the money in to the economy to better the lives of citizens.

“Non governmental organizations should also,come in to assist the government,” he noted.

He noted that palliatives will not address the hardships ravaging the country adding that,it will only cushion it temporarily.

“People needs to see that,the government is for them through its far-reaching policies and programmes.
“Government should do the needful. They know the needful better,”he stated.
