Daniel Mtindiga, Jalingo.

The Federal and Taraba State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) have partnered with the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations to address climate challenges and restore lands in the State with Tibre products.

Speaking during the Teams inspection/community re-engagement meeting with Yerima and Namnai communities in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State, the FAO’s Team Lead Dr. Precious Agbesor said, the partnership will restore land values thereby creating a healthy environment and boosting agricultural productivity in the State

He noted that while they are committed to executing the project, the communities are central to it’s implementation, urging the District Heads of Yerima HRH Muhammed Suleiman and that of Namnai HRH Musa Salisu to keep enlightening their subjects on the need to support the project.

Also speaking, Dr.Ruth Oghale of the ACReSAL Federal Project Management Unit, appreciated the communities for embracing the project adding that while the project is a long term one,the economic benefits are enormous.

Dr.Ruth further tasked them to improvise indigenous knowledge and practices that are helpful for sustainability of the project

However, she urged them to reintroduce plantation of economic trees like mangoes, oranges, guava, cashews and many others adding that they are essential in boosting the economy of the community.

In another development,Dr. Ruth commended the survivor rate of seedlings at the Yerima afforestation site and further recommended post planting measures for effective growth.

On their parts, the District Heads of the two communities applauded ACReSAL and FAO for investing in their communities noting that, they have given their lands in good faith and that, they are committed and dedicated to securing and supporting the project to its full implementation.
