Dr. Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has set out an ambitious development agenda for 2026, pledging inclusive growth through strategic investments in agriculture, mining, infrastructure, and grassroots empowerment.

In his New Year address to the people of Taraba State on Wednesday, Governor Kefas emphasized the state’s commitment to food security, modern livestock practices, and equitable land administration. “Taraba must feed itself sustainably while contributing responsibly to national food supply,” he said, noting that ranching, veterinary services, and conflict prevention will form the backbone of livestock reforms.

The Governor also highlighted responsible mining as a key driver of economic growth, warning against illegal mining, environmental degradation, and the use of mineral routes to fund insecurity.

He assured that Taraba will continue collaborating with federal authorities to ensure that mining activities are lawful, environmentally sustainable, and beneficial to host communities.

Infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and energy provision were also underscored as priorities. Governor Kefas announced plans to expand government presence to rural and hard-to-reach communities, strengthen citizen participation in development programs, and enhance local economic opportunities.

On security, the Governor reaffirmed his administration’s zero tolerance for violence and criminality, assuring that no part of the state would be left ungoverned. Security agencies have been fully empowered and coordinated to protect lives, property, and livelihoods across Taraba.

Governor Kefas further pledged to revive cultural and sporting activities as tools for youth engagement, social cohesion, and unity, describing the state’s diversity as a strength to be harnessed for peace and progress.

“2026 will be a year of peace with strength, progress with purpose, and prosperity with inclusion,” he said, calling on traditional rulers, religious leaders, farmers, pastoralists, youths, women, professionals, and political leaders to collaborate in achieving the collective success of Taraba State.

The Governor concluded by reaffirming his oath to govern with justice, protect every life, leave no community behind, and build a safe, productive, and united state.
