Taraba varsity SSANU/ NASU stages solidarity protest, threatens industrial action over unmet demands.

The Joint Action Committee (JAC), of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), and Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational Associated Institutions (NASU) Taraba State University, today,joined the solidarity protest of the Union to demand immediate settlement of pending demands.
In a communique issued to Newsmen at the end of the Unions Emergency meeting held on Thursday, 9th October 2025, the Taraba State University branch however, threatened to embark on an indefinite strike action if their pending demands are not meet within a short time.
Worldview Magazine gathered that, Comr. Mohammed H. Ibrahim,
National President, SSANU and Prince Peters A Ảdéyemi, JP. General Secretary, NASU, on behalf of the national joint committee of NASU and SSANU, had issued a circular to all her union branches in the universities and Inter- University centres to join the solidarity protest in demand for the federal government to meet their demands.
Worldview Magazine also gathered that the union is asking the federal government to address the, “Unjust Disbursement of N50 Billion Earned Allowances;
Delay in Renegotiation of Year 2009 FGN and NASUISSANU Agreements.
The Non-payment of Outstanding Two (2) Months Salaries, Non-payment of Arrears of 25% / 35% Salary Arrears, Non-payment of 3 Party Deductions of the Two Months Salaries, (May & June,
2022) and others.
The union also frowned at the situation where their demands remain unsettled, despite extension of the ultimatum, after the inauguration of the Joint Consultative Committee by the Honourable Minister
of Education to look into the demands of JAC of NASU & SSANU, and the Committee met twice on Friday. 19h September, 2025 and Monday, 6th October, 2025 at the Permanent Secretary’s Conference Room, Abuja.
Meanwhile, the TSU branch of the Unions called on the Taraba state government and the university authority to immediately address their pending demands or risk strike action.
Comr. Bitrus Joseph Ajibauka, the chairperson and Nkyareuten Musa Ipeyen JAC Secretary, called on governor Agbu Kefas and the university authority to clear the Outstanding Salaries/Allowances, Unpaid full salaries of September 2022, Unpaid full salaries of October 2022, Withheld 28% of June, 2022 salary balance, Withheld 51% of November, 2022 salary balance, Withheld 44% of December, 2022 salary balance, Earned Administrative Allowances (EAA), The payment of the remaining 87.1% of the total accumulated sum, Pension and Gratuity.
“The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational Associated Institutions (NASU) Taraba State University Branch at her Emergency Congress meeting held on 9th October, 2025 as directed by the National and carefully reviewed the Memorandum of Action (MoA), signed at the tripartite meeting held on Saturday, 25th January, 2025 between the Ministry of Tertiary Education, the University Management with the Union at the Senate Chambers, DDI Building, Taraba State University Jalingo, appealed to the University Management and the Taraba State Government to settle our outstanding demands as listed.
“The Outstanding Salaries/Allowances, Unpaid full salaries of September 2022, Unpaid full salaries of October 2022, Withheld 28% of June, 2022 salary balance, Withheld 51% of November, 2022 salary balance, Withheld 44% of December, 2022 salary balance, Earned Administrative Allowances (EAA), The payment of the remaining 87.1% of the total accumulated sum, Pension and Gratuity
“We want Taraba State Government to complete the process of State-Defined Pension Scheme for the staff of Taraba State University to include, the benefits for deceased and retired staff that will be promptly computed and paid to them and their families, respectively.
“Pursuant to the above, the Congress-in-session unanimously resolved and appeal to the University Management and the Taraba State Government to settle all the outstanding issues to avert the resumption of the total, comprehensive and Indefinite Strike action embarked on the 11th December, 2024 effective on the 9th December, 2024 that was previously suspended on the 26th January, 2025”. The union demanded.
