Taraba: APC cancels Senatorial Primaries, fix Sunday noon for fresh elections

The Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Senatorial Primary Elections in Taraba State, Saturday night, cancelled all the Senatorial elections conducted in the State and accordingly, fixed 12:00 noon of Sunday, 28th May, 2022 for fresh elections in all the three Senatorial Zones of Taraba state.

Briefing newsmen at the Police Headquatters Jalingo, the chairman of the committee, Dr. Mohammed Alkali said his led committee had confronted serious issues that needed to be sorted out before a credible, free and fair election would be conducted.

Reading out before journalists, the resolutions reached at the meeting of the Electoral Committee with the critical stakeholders of the party following the misunderstandings that issued during the elections, the Secretary of the party, Yahaya Suleiman, noted that all the issues the committee had met were unanimously resolved at the meeting, giving way for the election to be conducted.

“When we arrived, we discovered that result sheets were not made available to us from the APC National Secretariat. We discovered that the results sheets were earlier sent and recieved by the APC chairman but on our arrival, we were informed that they were vandalized.

“We had to call the National Secretariat and they were able to send us a soft copy for us to print and use for the primary elections.

“Consequently, the the primary election which was slated to hold today 28th May, 2022 is now rescheduled to hold on Sunday 29rh May, 2022 by 12: 00PM. at the respective Senatorial Secretariats Headquatters in the state”. He stated.

The committee also noted that indirect mode of Primary election would be adopted and would be use on Northern, Central and Southern Senatorial Zones of the state.

Our correspondent reported that the social media was during the day, inundated with different versions of declarations and results of the election from all the Senatorial Zones.
