HOPE AMID HORROR: HOW GOVERNOR CALEB MUTFWANG IS RECLAIMING PEACE IN PLATEAU STATE

Mohammed Tikka

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State is taking strong and thoughtful steps to deal with the serious insecurity that has troubled the state for many years. Instead of just sending in soldiers, he’s using a mix of firm action, community involvement, reforms, and compassion.

One of his first major moves was to stop all mining in the state. This is because illegal mining has been linked to violence and land problems. By suspending it, he wants to end the chaos and create better rules that are fair to local communities.

To stop night attacks, he banned cattle grazing and movement after dark, as well as motorcycle use after 7 p.m. This makes it harder for attackers to move around at night.

When violence continued even with the military present, he questioned their role. He asked for them to be replaced by mobile police officers (MOPOL), who he thinks are better suited for the job. He also demanded investigations into claims that some soldiers may have ignored or even helped attackers.

The Governor isn’t just giving orders from his office, he’s visiting communities that have been attacked, meeting victims face-to-face, comforting them, and promising justice.

To get to the root of the violence, he set up a committee to investigate attacks going all the way back to 2001. Their job is to find out who was affected, who was responsible, and how to prevent future violence.

He also supports the idea of state police, saying local problems need local solutions. According to him, many governors and even the President agree, and he’s working to make it a reality through the National Assembly.

Knowing that peace isn’t just about force, he started a community peace talk with traditional, religious, and youth leaders to build trust and unity.

The governor is investing in new technology to help track and prevent attacks. At the same time, he’s empowering local hunters and community vigilantes to work with official security forces. He believes that combining modern tools with local knowledge is the best way to protect communities.

Governor Mutfwang isn’t just looking for help inside Nigeria, he’s reaching out to other countries, especially the United States, to form partnerships that can support Plateau’s peace and security efforts. He understands that international support can bring more resources, training, and attention to the crisis.

His approach is different. not just reacting to attacks, he’s working to stop the reasons behind them. He’s listening to the people, changing the system, and showing real leadership. He’s combining strong security measures with compassion, reform, and community involvement.

Although many problems still exist, his actions have given people a sense of hope. Slowly, the belief is growing that Plateau State can become peaceful again, a place where people feel safe, respected, and united.
