Yorro Council Chair reassures IDPS of succour.

By Christiana Babayo

Chairperson of Yorro Local Government, Hon Martina A. Anthony has called on Internally displaced persons from Yorro and other local governments to hang on as the government is doing all in it’s power to provide succour for them.

Hon Martina who gave the assurance while interacting with our Reporter in Jalingo this Wednesday said the incidence of the past days that left thousands of resident displaced and properties destroyed is very sympathetic and disheartening.

She described the incidence as an act of war against the residents rather than banditry because in the last attacks, ransoms we’re not asked but people were been kidnapped and some killed in the process.

“What is happening in my local government is very sympathetic. Infact it’s as if it’s not banditry and kidnapping, I think it is a war because when bandits enter a village and pick people, they ask for ransom. The ones in Yorro are killing people, destroying houses and properties.

“As part of efforts to tackle the issues, in parts of Yorro we have vigilante, Taraba Marshal and the rest, they are doing their best working round the clock to see that normalcy returns.

“We are making a lot of efforts at the moment but the condition keeps persisting. I will assure you that we will not relent.

“We have also supplied foodstuff to the IDPs, we went to SEMA regarding the issue and for their health issues, we can call our health workers to come in and assist” She said.

She appreciated the great efforts of the state Government during this hard time and called on the displaced persons to remain calm while the government is working on more means to ensure that they are comfortable before they return home.

She also said that efforts are in place to ensure that they reclaim their homes and their livelihood as soon as possible.

“The state Government has helped us alot during this short time. I must commend their efforts. I want to again plead with the government to continue the efforts and not relent so that these my people can be comfortable.

“I will also plead with my people to exercise some patience and remain calm, help is surely on the way. We are working round the clock to see that the normalcy returns and that they are well attended to till then”
