Security Agents Seize 6 Trucks of Dangote Cement PLC Allegedly Heading to Cameroon

By Yaro Sani, Yola

Security agents in Adamawa State have seized six trucks of cement belonging to Dangote Cement PLC allegedly heading to neighbouring Cameroon Republic against Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s ban on building materials leaving the shores of the country via the state.

Report from the security agency said the seizure was made sequel to alleged frequent diversion of truckloads of cement meant for destinations in Adamawa State, thereby raising the cost of such commodities in the state.

According to the report, Security agents who were implementing Fintiri’s ban transferred the seized trucks to the police who currently packed them at the state police Command headquarters in Yola.

The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, Mr Humwashi Wonosikou reacting at a press conference on Friday in Yola said that the authorities had reasons to suspect that the trucks were headed for nearby Cameroon.

He said the government would not let a few shady persons test its generosity, adding, “As you are aware, the government has outlawed the export of construction goods in order to reduce pricing impact on the environment.

“We were dismayed to learn that some people continue to oppose the government by engaging in anti-government activities.”

Wonosikou said security agents would accompany the seized trucks to the destinations originally specified on the invoices.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje who also addressed the matter, said the Adamawa State Police Command had established a security ring throughout the state to monitor the movement of items in accordance with government’s requirements.

He said his men would ensure that the seized products get to their original destinations within Adamawa State.
