LCCN Archbishop Urges Tinubu to Alleviate Severe Economic Hardships faced by Nigerians.

Most Rev. Musa Panti Filibus, PhD, Archbishop of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN) has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently deploy ways to alleviate Nigerians’ severe economic hardships which could cause a security threat to the nation in the near future.

He made the call while addressing worshippers at the church’s 2024 annual conference in Demsa Local Government Area of Adamawa state.

Rev Filibus lamented over the current economic hardship the nation is experiencing adding that the presidency should as a matter of urgency act fast before the situation reaches a state of anarchy and beyond.

Filibus further explained that increased insecurity, high costs of living and hardship, unemployment, and political instability has endangered the country’s peace and tranquillity and also made the country vulnerable to attacks.

“It is highly upsetting and difficult to provide counsel in light of the challenges people are experiencing. Commodity prices are rising, and the lives of the most vulnerable are in danger as a result of widespread violence, kidnappings for ransom, and the murder of innocent people.” he said

According to him, President Tinubu and his administration should accept responsibility and navigate a way out of the situation as it is their responsibility as leaders.

He also lamented the most recent awful images showing the savage massacre of innocent people, including toddlers carried on their mothers’ backs, in Plateau State.

As a result, he urged the President to step up his efforts to combat the menace and punish the culprits and financiers responsible for the bloodshed in the country.

Filibus warned his congregation that the country must not bow to those who create discord and agitate its people, no matter how dire the situation becomes.

However, their faith must remain unshakable and undisturbed. “We should turn to each other, aiding and supporting one another but instead, we risk turning against each other.

“Continue to pray for our government and stop spreading the tragic message that Nigeria is beyond redemption; believe in God for his salvation. After all, God’s word is authentic, so there’s no reason to mistrust our faith” he called.

During the ceremony, the Archbishop used the opportunity to thank the congregation for their ongoing commitment and support of his administration, highlighting their role in making the university project possible.

He informed them that the church is looking forward to its centenary convention in 2025, which started with their relatives’ voyage to Lamurde in 1925.

Filibus thanked God for sustaining them and praised member churches for their ecumenical understanding and mutual support. He also expressed gratitude to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his support towards the church.
