Gov Kefas Calls for Negotiation Amidst Strike Action, Says Dialogue is key to Resolving issues

The Governor of Taraba State, His Excellency, Dr. Agbu Kefas has appealed to the striking Lecturers of Taraba State University, Jalingo to return to the negotiation table and sheathe their swords, emphasizing that, dialogue is still the best action to conflict resolution.
His appeal was contained in a Press Statement signed and made available to Newsmen in Jalingo by his Special Adviser, Media and Digital Communications, Honorable Emmanuel Bello following the unfortunate strike news.
The Gov. who made the appeal, Thursday following declaration of the strike action by the ASUU-TSU Chapter, commended the lecturers for their understanding over the time and urged them to exercise more patience as efforts are on top gear to address the issues regarding their welfare and reputation of the institution.
“My administration is working on all outstanding agreements and other related issues. The lecturers remains my partners in the efforts to provide free education. The role they play in shaping the future of students is one I hold dear,” he said.
He stated that, he recently met with the leadership of the ASUU-TSU Chapter to discuss their demands and expectations.
He however, reaffirmed his unwavering commitment and determination to meeting their demands and also, creating a conducive environment for learning in the university community adding that, massive infrastructure and improved staff welfare will continue to top his Moving Forward Mantra.
Recall that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU)-TSU Chapter had today Thursday December 5th, embarked on a total comprehensive and indefinite strike action following the inability of the University Management and the Government to address critical welfare and institutional issues despite granted a 30-day relief period that expired on July 4, 2024, as requested by the government.
