In a significant development for Taraba State’s agricultural sector, AGAD FARM NIG. Ltd has unveiled a new hybrid rice seed variety that promises to boost rice production in the region.

The unveiling took place at the company’s farmland in Shomoh Sarki, Lau Local Government Area of the state.

AGAD FARM NIG. Ltd during the unveiling expressed its commitment to partnering with the Taraba State government to provide high-quality rice seeds to farmers in the state.

This initiative aims to ensure food security and optimal yields, aligning with the state’s efforts to boost agriculture and food production.

Our Correspondent also reports that the new hybrid rice seed, sourced from Thailand Europe, has undergone rigorous testing by local farmers and has shown impressive results.

“We are excited to introduce this new hybrid rice seed variety to Taraba State, and we believe it will make a significant impact on rice production in the region. We are committed to working with the state government to ensure that our farmers have access to the best seeds and technology to improve their yields and livelihoods.”

Speaking on the gains of the dry season rice farming, Dantata said that he has commenced harvesting rice from his current dry season farming, anticipating a yield of at least 200 bags per hectare.

He recalled his promise from the previous farming season to introduce an improved seed variety, highlighting the potential for farmers to yield 150-200 bags per hectare, hence the unveiling.

“Taraba state is endowed with fertile land that is conducive to farming any type of crop, with minimal fertilizer requirements due to its soil characteristics. Many people, including myself, would be eager to invest in farming here if we have available land.”

Dantata revealed that AGAD FARM has expanded its capacity by over 100 hectares from the previous year, testing the improved variety and yielding favorable results.

He reiterated his company’s willingness to partner with the Taraba State government and interested farmers to provide access to new hybrid variety rice seeds, enhancing food security in the state.

“It is our hope that rice farmers will observe the performance of rice on-site and understand the significance of quality rice seeds in achieving high yields.”

Alhaji Dantata pointed out that rice farmers in the state have enjoyed various state government-assisted programs under the leadership of Dr. Agbu Kefas while highlighting the need for lower tractor service costs and access to fertilizers to further assist farmers.

Dantata urged the government to increase its support and intervention in the agricultural sector, with a particular focus on tractor service costs and subsidized farm inputs.

The host communities and beneficiaries of Alhaji Abdulmanan’s generosity praised AGAD FARM’s contributions to their families’ development and wellbeing.

Mal. Muhammad Adamu testified that AGAD FARM’s presence has improved his life and called on community members to provide full support and maintain peaceful coexistence.

Another beneficiary, Maimuna Yahaya, stated that AGAD FARM is now her primary source of livelihood, enabling her to support her family and assist others who are also in need amidst the current economic crunch
