Tiv Students donate relief materials to IDPs in Taraba

The Taraba State Chapter of Community of Tiv Students has donated relief materials to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Bali Local Government Area, Taraba State.

The students presented 5bags of salt, a full bag of leather slippers, 10 cottons of indomie, 3 cottons of maggi, 3 bags of bathing soap and 2 bags of rice to the IDPs.

Speaking while presenting the relief materials at the Tiv Traditional Council Hall Bali Last Saturday, Miss Jacintha Doom Agwa who is the Kumashe (miss beauty) of the association in the state, said they were moved to staged the gesture because of several untold hardship the IDPs are passing through in the area.

Agwa who lamented the sufferings of the IDPs appealed that the little they presented to the IDPs should inspired well to do individuals in the state and beyond to come to the aid of the IDPs whom according to her, seem to be helpless at this moment in their various camps.

“We actually feel bad about what you are passing through. But as students, we don’t have much money to alleviate your sufferings but we do hope that God will turn it big so that you will make the maximum use of it.

“It is also our earnest prayers that well to do individuals in the state and beyond will also be inspired by this to come to your aid”. She stated.

Agwa appreciated stakeholders of the association as well as all other individuals who joined hands with the association to get the materials for the IDPs.

Also speaking, Mr. Godwin Iortom, the Vice President CTS Taraba state chapter, said the association would continue to do it best to see if it could reach out to IDPs in the other LGAs in the state.

Receiving the relief materials on behalf of the IDPs, the Ter Bali II, Zaki David Gbaa JP said he was amazed over the students’ show of love and kindness at such a difficult time when the country’s economy is biting hard on individuals and pray God to bless them abundantly.

Zaki Gbaa appreciated the efforts of the Executive Governor of Taraba State towards resettlement of the IDPs in their ancestral homes in Bali Local Government Area, pointing out that through the governor’s efforts, so many IDPs had returned to their ancestral homes in Bali exception of Suntai and few other places in the Local Government.

David Gbaa called on the IDPs and the good people of Taraba state to remain calm and embrace peaceful coexistence to enable the Governor effectively deliver devidence of democracy in the state.

In his speech, the Patron of the Association in Taraba State, Associate Professor John Ajai, expressed concern that the people were still in camps during the raining season when they were supposed to be in their farms.

Ajai who expressed worry that there may be food shortage if the situation is allowed to continue, called on the governments at all levels to intensify efforts towards resettling the remaining IDPs to enable them continue with their farming activities even as he advised parents to toil hard and educate their children despite all their challenges.

While presenting good will messages, Rev Father Simon Akuraga, encouraged the people to embrace and serve God with all their hearts in any condition they find themselves.

The Reverend Father highlighted unity, love and service to humanity as a whole mark of a Christian and urged the people to always put such morals in practice to enable God identify with them in their daily challenges.

The Patron, CTS Taraba State University, Dr. Azuaga Igbalagh, in his remark, appealed to the government of Taraba State to do more on the resettlement of IDPs to enable farmers, especially those in Suntai, Bali Local Government and other LG Areas access their ancestral homes.

Dr. Azuaga appreciated the spirit of courage and endurance of the IDPs and urged them to intensify their daily prayers so that God in his infinite mercy would console them over the lost lives of their relatives and restore their lost properties.

On her part, the Matron CTS, Taraba State chapter, Mrs. Abaya Esther, consoled the IDPs and asked them not to forsake God in their difficult times adding that God is always by the side and would set them free at the appropriate time.
