TARABA WOULD HAVE BEEN SAFER HAD WE LISTENED TO GOV ISHAKU- SAYS MONARCH

BY Christiana Babayo

The DISTRICT HEAD OF BUNGAH & SARKIN SUDAN OF JIBU-BALI, HRH ALHAJI YAKUBU GARBA, has attributed the influx of bad elements into the society to the negligence of some traditional rulers even after His Excellency Architect Darius Ishaku had warned them ahead of time to check the influx of foreign elements in their localities.

The chief who made this statement in a media interaction with Worldview during a familiarization visit to the office in Jalingo on Wednesday also commended the foresight of Gov Ishaku, stressing that if only people had listened to his waning, some of the security threats witnessed in the state would have been avoided.

“I thank God for the foresight of the governor of our dear state Taraba, Arc Darius Dickson Ishaku. He warned all of us ahead of time and if we had taken heed to his counsel, the situation would not have deteriorated to this point.

“I remember vividly that the Governor cautioned us against allowing foreign elements into our communities. But when he asked us to check this influx, some took it that he hated certain factions. But that is not the case, the Governor is everyone’s Governor, he cannot hate anybody.

“We were reluctant and we unknowingly allowed bad elements into our society, now we are seeing the consequences of that negligence.” He said

The Chief however called on every well-meaning Taraban to be vigilant, from the residents to the traditional rulers, adding that when a governor makes such calls, it because he knows that is the best thing to do at the moment.

While advising the polity ahead of the forth coming general elections, Yakubu said these are difficult times and people need to remain watchful and wise. Accrding to him, there is no need to take arms or buy arms for young people to fight. It is God that gives leadership and we must allow fate take its course.

He also advised that people should learn to put away sentiments and play politics according to the rules of the game.

“Politics is politics and religion is religion. We must all learn to separate the two. No Christian or Muslim will tell you that if h or she dies without joining politics, God will question them, but if you die without doing right by your religion, that is when God will question you.

“We traditional rulers are supposed to tell our people the truth, and whatever vote you cast is for everybody. We must draw a fine line between religion and politics; there is no need to mix the two up” he advised.
