As part of ongoing efforts to support disaster victims, the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), in collaboration with Action Against Hunger (ACF), has disbursed over N80 million in cash-for-food assistance to 898 households affected by recent windstorms and flooding in Fika, Potiskum, and Fune Local Government Areas.

SEMA gave a breakdown of beneficiaries include, 329 households in Fika, 340 in Potiskum, and 229 in Fune, who received support under the initiative.

The Agency noted that the intervention is part of its Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL) programme which complements its earlier cash-for-rent support to flood-displaced families across the state.

Speaking during the exercise, SEMA’s Executive Secretary described the intervention as a timely one which will ease the burden of affected households.

“These interventions reaffirm our commitment to restoring hope and rebuilding lives. We commend Action Against Hunger for always finding ways to key into the government’s initiative and standing with us to support vulnerable communities and save lives.

“This timely cash for food assistance perfectly complements our cash-for-rent programme, and together we are ensuring no one is left behind” The ES said.

The agency assured residents of the commitment to partnering with relevant agencies and communities in order to mobilise resources and deliver life-saving assistance to all affected households.
