Police releases arrested church leaders,SDP Guber Candidate in Taraba

The Taraba State Police Command has released the arrested Church leaders of the Universal Reform Church of Christ URCC fondly called NKST and the Taraba State candidate of the Social Democratic Party SDP, Hon. Danladi Baido who were arrested in the earlier hours of today at the Jalingo Consistory of the church.

Some of the leaders who were among those arrested along side the popular politician and the church leaders, told our reporters that they were actually taken to the police station but later released because the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola A. Sokoya had discovered that the issue was nothing but a manipulation by the President General of the Tiv Cultural and Social Association, Mr Joshua Ayagwa to float their interactive session.

The leaders said they were in the church with the SDP candidate who visited the church to solicit prayers from the pastor and leaders of the church to enable him succeed in the forth coming election when a team of Police officers combed the church and whisked them away.

“The Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Honerable Danladi Baido was with us in the church to seek for our prayers. So the President General, Mr. Ayagwa who does not want the Tiv Community to belong to any other political Party in the state for reasons best know only by him, went and gave fake information impression to the CP who then ordered for our arrest.

“We hesitated that we will not answer such an obnoxious call but the SDP candidate been a law abiding person and a law maker himself, insisted that we must answer the call and we obliged

“At the station, the Commissioner was highly professional. During our interaction with him, he discovered that the issue was a manipulation from the Taraba State President General of Tiv Cultural and Social association, Mr Joshua Ayagwa who confronted him with a fake impression that the Tiv Community’s factions were going to crash at the church premises.

“The CP said “I was misinformed that the Tiv people have factions which were going to crash. That was why I sent my officers to comb the area to forestall law and order in the area. It is high time that cultural leaders stop delving into politics in the state. They should stay away from politics.

“They should not be compelling people to vote or follow politicians of their choice, especially that people have the sole right of voting candidates of their choice”. One of the leaders narrated.

He further noted that they had since been released and they are in their various homes to reunite with their families.
