NUJ Taraba Condoles 6 Brigade Commander over Demise of Father, Reaffirms Media–Military Partnership.

The Taraba State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has paid a condolence visit to the Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, following the demise of his father, late Professor Ardo Chima Ezeomah, who passed on at the age of 93.
Speaking during the visit, the NUJ Chairman, Comrade Mathew Eliud Jen, described the engagement as one marked by deep sorrow rather than the usual excitement that accompanies official interactions.
He said the union was profoundly saddened by the loss and had come to empathise, console and stand in solidarity with the Commander and his family in the difficult moment, noting that the media in Taraba and the army have forged ties that goes beyond official functions.
“Today’s visit does not carry the normal euphoria. We are deeply saddened by the passing of our father, Professor Ardo Chima Ezeomah. Though he is your father, we see him as a father to us as well.
On behalf of all members of the NUJ in Taraba State, we condole with you and pray that God grants you the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”the NUJ Chairman said.
Responding, Brigadier General Uwa expressed appreciation for the show of love and solidarity, describing the visit as a reflection of the strong bond and collective efforts between the military and the media in the fight against insecurity.
He noted that his late father, a pioneer in national education initiatives including nomadic education, lived a fulfilled life dedicated to service.
“Your condolence is highly appreciated. This gesture is a fruit of our collective efforts in combating insecurity. He was a good man, and time will fail me to begin to eulogise him,” the Commander said, thanking the NUJ on behalf of the Ezeomah family.
Brigadier General Uwa further reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s recognition of the media as a strategic partner in today’s complex information environment, stressing the importance of strengthening policies and sustaining engagements that deepen mutual understanding.
He assured that troops of 6 Brigade remain fully committed to the protection of lives and property, with strict adherence to the rules of engagement and respect for human rights.
Uwa also assured the union of the Brigade’s openness to transparent and constructive engagement with the media in the collective pursuit of peace and stability in Taraba State.
The visit ended with prayers for the repose of the soul of the deceased and renewed commitment by both parties to sustain collaboration in the interest of public safety and development.
