
NSCDC to embark on operation safe schools in Taraba

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC has completed arrangements to embark on operation safe schools in Taraba State.
This follows the recent gruesome murder of a teacher, Mr. Bassey Sardauna Nkuphee, at GDSS Model Jalingo by an ex-student of the school.
Adressing the Principal, Federal Science and Technical College Jalingo, Dr. Samuel Bibinu with his entourage who paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the State Command Headquarters, Mile Six Jalingo, Tuesday, the Commandant, NSCDC, Taraba State Command, Adamu Salihu decried the spate of attacks on schools and assured Tarabans that NSCDC and other Security Agencies are on top of the matter to put an end to it in the state in no distant time.
Emphasising the Command’s determination to get rid of such unwholesome acts in the state, the commandant disclosed that the NCDC would immediately beef up security at the Federal Science and Technical College Jalingo and other schools in the state.
He explained that NSCDC under the able leadership of Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi mni (OFR), is highly concerned over the spate of attacks on schools in different states of the federation and had deem it necessary to come up with the strategy to keep schools safe from threats and attacks.
Adamu expressed sadness over the killing of the teacher at GDSS Model Jalingo and assured citizens of Taraba that once the Safe School Programme kick starts, such ugly acts would be things of the past.
“The Taraba State Command of the NSCDC is saddened over the unfortunate death of Mr. Bassey Sardauna Nkuphee of GDSS Model Jalingo who was killed by an ex-student of the school.
“I am using this opportunity to call for calm and to assure people of Taraba State that the NCDC, Taraba State Command will not relent on its efforts of safeguarding the lives and property of the people including school children. Be rest assured that once the Safe School Programme kick starts, these ugly acts will be things of the past.
“Meanwhile, we shall deploy personnel to Federal Science and Technical College (FSTC) Jalingo to ensure safety in and around the school environment. I will also detail the Rapid Response Squad and the Female Special Squad to routinely go round the schools in Jalingo to teach them safety skills so that staff and students will know what to do in times of security emergencies”. The Commandant assured.
Earlier, the Principal, Federal Science and Technical College, Dr. Bibinu, said they were at the Command to familiarize themselves with the Commandant and his principal officers and to also thank him for the collaboration they have enjoyed with the Corps in the past years.
Dr. Bibinu further disclosed that FSTC Jalingo had moved from her old site in Magami Jalingo to her permanent site in Wuro Sembe Jalingo.
“This movement is not without challenges as the new site is located at the outskirts of Jalingo. Therefore, we are here today to ask for your support in providing us with security coverage so that our students and staff will be secured from all forms of attacks”. He added.
