The Senate of the Nigerian Army University Biu, Borno State, has elected Professor Ahmad Imam of the Department of Accounting, Faculty of Arts and Management Sciences, as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the institution.
Prof. Imam, who was serving as the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), was elected during the 2nd Special Senate Meeting held on March 6, 2025.
He has previously served as the Director of Research before being elected DVC Administration two years ago.
In his acceptance speech after the election, Imam expressed gratitude to the Senate for entrusting him with the leadership of the university in an acting capacity and pledged to prioritize staff welfare and address outstanding issues concerning the university community.
The acting VC assured members of the institution that security would remain a key focus, promising to sustain the measures implemented by the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kyari Mohammed.
This is even as he prayed for the safe return of Prof. Abubakar El-Jummah, who was kidnapped along the Biu-Damboa road, and urged staff to avoid dangerous routes within and outside the state.
He pledged to collaborate with the newly constituted Governing Council to ensure the smooth running of the university.
In his closing remarks, the outgoing VC Prof. Kyari Mohammed, thanked the senate and the university community for the support accorded him during his tenure and called for support for the acting VC to succeed in his new assignment.
