Lives Lost as Fulani Herdsmen Attack Tiv Community in Taraba.

There is rising tension in Maraba Azagwa and Allele settlements in Maihula Ward, Bali local government area of Taraba State following the clash between the Tiv and Fulani in the area, where no fewer than five lives were lost.

The incidence which occurred in the early hours of Sunday June 16th,2024 escalated to a heated conflict between the Fulani and Tiv Farmers has so far claimed about 5 lives leaving 3 persons with high degrees of injuries, sources say.

Sources who spoke to our correspondent narrated that “A Fulani man from Mararaba Azagwa, got intoxicated and died on his way home. As a result of his death, his Fulani brothers have alleged that, Tiv people are responsible for his death so they started attacking Tiv people and their communities immediately”

“As at yesterday,all the roads linking up Tiv villages in Maihula were blocked by the Fulani angry youth”, they added.

Acting PPRO Taraba State Police Command Headquarters, Jalingo DSP Kwache Gambo ascertained that, only two people were confirmed dead and security operatives have since been deployed to the affected areas to restore normalcy.

However, the Ter Bali and Chairman Tiv Traditional Council Taraba State, His Royal Highness, David Gbaa-Tela in a telephone interview also confirmed to our correspondent that the uprising has claimed five lives.

He added that few persons have been severely injured and are receiving treatments in hospitals but security operatives were deployed to the scenes of the happenings to avert the situation.

As at the time.this report was filed, all efforts to reach out to the Bali LGA Chairman Hon. Aboki Dauda Dakka proved abortive.
