Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, has postponed his planned defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the recent abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State.
In a statement, Governor Kefas described the incident as deeply distressing, noting that the tragedy made it inappropriate to proceed with any political activity at this time.
He said the safety and well-being of the children must take precedence over political engagements, hence the suspension of the event.
“In light of the deeply troubling incident of the kidnapping of innocent school girls in Kebbi State, I have taken the solemn decision to postpone my scheduled declaration and movement to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“At a moment when our nation is once again confronted with the painful reality of insecurity, solidarity and compassion must rise above politics.
“The safety of our children, the most vulnerable and precious members of our society is far more important than any political activity or ceremony.” Part of the statement read.
The Governor extended his sympathy to the families of the abducted schoolgirls and conveyed his condolences to the Federal Government over what he termed a heartbreaking development.
He further called on security agencies to intensify efforts to ensure the safe rescue of the victims.
Governor Kefas added that a new date for his defection would be communicated after due consultations.
