Gov Kefas commissions ACReSAL project in Taraba state.

Governor of Taraba state Dr Agbu Kefas on Wednesday officially commissioned the Agro Climatic resilience in Semi Arid Landscape, ACReSAL, project in Taraba state.

Addressing the crowd at the event, Agbu expressed satisfaction with the progress made by the ACReSAL Team in the state and assured that the government will not relent in its support towards the project.

Stressing the importance of keeping environment alive and green, Agbu called on all to join in the greening project so as to keep the environment alive for the benefit of everyone.

Speaking earlier, the commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Hajiya Aishat Barde noted that Taraba ACReSAL Project has completed the construction of eleven (11) Sola-powered
Boreholes located in Jalingo, Gashaka, Yorro, Lau, Ardo Kola, Bali, Donga, Kurmi and Wukari LGAs.

She commended Dr Kefas Agbu for his commitment and support towards greening the environment through which ACReSAL was able to construct and furnish their office Complex in Jalingo, renovated and furnished additional office block and also raised seedlings for planting.

She revealed that ACReSAL has already conducted sensitization programs and enlightenment on community interest group formations across the 16 local governments in order to give the people more understanding on thr projects.

Barde commended the ACReSAL steering and technical committees and the project management unit for their contributions and efforts towards achieving the set goals of the project.

Also speaking, the State Project Coordinator, ACReSAL, Samaila Dumuti explained that the project is an initiation of the FG through the federal ministries of environment, agric and water resources implemented in 19 states and the fct.

He said the project is aimed as restoring degraded lands as a result of climate change impacts in northern Nigeria as well as reduce vulnerability of extremely poor people in northern Nigeria.

He also stressed that the project will continue to do it’s parts in ensuring that they meet up with the slogan of the ACReSAL that says “Greening the environment and saving lives”
