Fire Razes Popular Lounge in Taraba, Over a Billion Naira Loss incurred.
By Christiana Babayo.
A devastating fire has ravaged Duchess Lounge, a popular social hub in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, resulting in losses estimated at over one billion naira.
Although the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, eyewitnesses suggest that a sudden power surge, exacerbated by the weather, may have sparked the blaze.
Worldview Correspondent, reported that the entire first floor, comprising the general club, VIP, and VVIP sections, was reduced to ashes, with all furniture and sound systems destroyed.
Professor Joseph Albasu Kunini, the lounge’s owner and former Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, expressed his sadness at the loss. “It’s a sad development, and a huge loss, but we’re grateful that no lives were lost. We had just completed a comprehensive overhaul of the lounge, including new furniture, in preparation for our third anniversary on December 30.”
The lounge’s manager, Mr. Desmond Wee, told our correspondent that he immediately called the fire services when the fire started, but they arrived three hours later, after the damage had already been done.
