Eid-el-Kabir: Stakeholders advocate alternative ways of ending insecurity in Nigeria

From Jethro Yerga Jalingo

As Muslim faithful across Nigeria joined their counterparts in other countries of the world to commemorate this year’s Eid-el- Kabir, some stakeholders in Taraba State have called on Nigerians to explore alternative means towards curbing the pathetic soaring of insecurity in the country to support the usual deployment of security operatives to affected areas.

The stakeholders in their separate Salah messages, expressed dismay over the merciless killings going on in the country and stressed the need for quick and stringent majors to arrest the unfortunate situation.

Addressing journalists shortly after taking the usual Eid-el-Kabir prayer in Jalingo, the Deputy Governor of Taraba State His Excellency Engr. Haruna Manu, advocated for ceaseless prayers among both Christians and Muslims as the major alternative left to avert the horrible situation Nigeria is passing through at the moment.

Engr. Haruna Manu who emphasized that Security of lives and property is every body’s business, called on Nigerians to always be at alert and collaborate with Security Operatives in the fight against unscrupulous elements disturbing the peace of the people.

He congratulated the Muslim Umar for passing through the turbulent times to witness another Eid-el-Kabir Celebration and urged them to pray for those who are on Haj to observe the five pillars of Islam.

Also, the Wazirin Muri, Muri Emirate, Alh. Umar Ibrahim in his message, identified youth restiveness in Nigeria as the major cause of the rising spate of insecurity in the country and appealed to political leaders as well as meaning Nigerians to assist the youth by providing opportunities for them to learn skills and other entrepreneurship businesses.

Waziri who congratulated the Muslim faithful for observing the Salah celebration in a peaceful atmosphere, encouraged them to demonstrate the teachings of Prophet Muhammed through love for one another, tolerance and sacrificial services to their father land, adding that when those teachings are encouraged among Nigerians, especially youth, the issue of insecurity in the country would die a natural death.

Similarly, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Bello Yero, charged the Muslim faithful to think beyond the symbolic slaughtering of lamb during Eid-el- Kabir celebrations and practically demonstrate the significance of the act.

He stressed that Abraham was asked by Almighty Allah to sacrifice his only son and he totally submitted himself to the will of Allah and Allah seen his total submission to Him, intervened and asked him to rather use the lamb he provided for him for the sacrifice.

“This signified that we must be willing to make sacrifices for one another, we must have the spirit of giving thanks to Allah all the time, we must know that Almighty Allah is the only one who owns all the lives in this world and only Him that has the right to take away anybody’s life no matter who he is. If we know all these and we are able to put them into practice, peace will know no bound among us”. He added.

On his part, the Pioneer Executive Secretary, Taraba State Primary Health Care Development Agency, TSPHDA, Aminu Jauro Hassan maintained that Nigerians must learn how to respect the law and constituted authorities to ensure the peace of the country.
