Don’t Look at oath taking as a mere ceremony: Fintiri charges judges

The Governor Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Alh. Ahmadu Urmaru Fintiri has charged the Ministry of Judiciary not to look at oath taking as just a mere ceremony.

The governor gave charge Thursday, in Yola during the swearing in of High Court and Customary Court of Appeal Judges and Khadis.

He said the swearing – in was part of his government’s effort towards strengthening legal institutions through upholding the creed of Fairness, equity, Precedence and Justice in all dealings with all Arms of Government as a general principle of Good Governance.

“This is why Oath taking, should not be seen as a mere ceremony, or just a matter of formal procedure but a reaffirmation of each one of your Lordships’ commitment to serve God by serving humanity in the Temple of Justice”,

“I am confident that with your long sojourn on the lower Bench or in the Bar, whichever maybe the case, you all have what it takes to drive a new phase in our judicial system”. He stated.

Governor Fintiri noted that his administration is conscious of the fact that good governance cannot be attained without allowing all the organs of government to function independently.

According to him. “today, no institution requires the deployment of these principles as much as the Judicial Arm of Government hence the commitment to make the tenets of the Rule of Law, the bedrock of Justice and Equity so that the common man can have a genuine hope of better things to come.

” While congratulating you on your deserving elevation as you join in building the Adamawa State of our dream, it is expected that transparency, discipline, efficiency should be your watchwords”. He added.

Responding on behalf of the eight newly appointed and inaugurated judges, Justice Ishaku Yakubu Haliru expressed commitment to promoting the course of justice in the state.

Justice Ishaku Yakubu Haliru explained that Judiciary being the last hope of the common man is always expected to operate in line with justice system hence their resolve to tour this part.

He commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for supporting the third arm of government and assured their uncompromising duty and function for the good of the masses.

Ishaku who noted that the gesture was an added responsibility for them, pledged that they would brace up the more even as they also count it as an honour which they would work assiduously to justify.
