A socio-cultural group known as Jenjo Community Development Association (JCDA), has called on the Taraba State Government and the Commissioner of Police to immediately arrest, investigate and prosecute all the culprits behind the gruesome murder of Mr. Bassey Sardauna Nkuphee by his students in Model Secondary School, Jalingo
In a Press Conference held in Jalingo the Taraba State Capital, the socio-cultural group condemned in strong terms the murder of Mr Bassey and all other forms of violence in schools and communities and called on security agencies to double up their efforts towards stemming the ugly and heinous acts.
The spoke man of the group, the General Secretary, Mr Ezekiel Nemuel, who represented the national president of the group, recalled that, before the gruesome murder of Mr. Bassey Sardauna by his students, several of their members including Late Oliver Barawani Ezra, Cina Jeremiah and Late Robinho were also killed through such barbaric attacks
While lamenting the plight of the bereaved family of Bassey Sardauna, the national president, appealed with the Taraba State Government to take responsibility for the sustenance and sponsorship of the children of the deceased up to the highest level of education.
“We are in deep mourn over the gruesome and barbaric murder of our son, Late Mr. Bassey Sardauna Nkuphee. Again, you may recall that our people were victims of such unannounced attack in the recent past leading to the death of three people including late Oliver Barawani Ezra, Cina Jeremiah, Late Robinho and now Bassey Sardauna Nkuphee. Please enough is enough.
“We however, want to appeal to all our people, friends and well-wishers to refrain from any form of reprisal and be calm as the JCDA will work assiduously with the law enforcement agencies in ensuring that Justice is done”. He added
The National President further urged the state government to implement the Safe Schools Global Initiative (SSGI) in order to aggressively strengthen security around the schools.
Recall that Mr Bassey was on Thursday, 9th November, 2023, killed by his students after school because of a little fracas between him and a student.
The government of Taraba State and the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT have already, issued out Press Statements condemning the barbaric act
