Christmas: Taraba clergy charges christians to remain carriers of good news
The Chaplain of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Chaplaincy, Taraba State University, Jalingo, Very Rev. Fr. Williams P. Awoshiri, has called on christians to remain carriers of the good news of Christ through their ways of life
The clergy made the call while delivering his Christmas Sermon on the theme, ‘Christmas is here’ at the Chaplaincy church
He explained that christmas is a feast of giving, peace and good news as well as divine presence, emphasizing that as instrument of peace, christians must share with others the story of Jesus.
Father Awoshiri who emphasized that peace was the best Christmas gift that christians can give or receive, however, lamented how the blessed event has suffered from defective perspectives and misinterpretations
He cited Isaiah 52:1 where God charged brethren to spread the news so as to give hope to the people
“Be carriers of good news. How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news. The essence of good news is to give people hope.
“In a world full of hatred, malice, prejudice, and injustice, we are called to bring good news of the birth of Jesus Christ.
“We are to give hope to the hopeless, joy to the lowly hearts, peace to the troubled, and encouragement to those who are discouraged.
“Let those who are around us see reasons to be happy even when the situation suggests otherwise”. He stated.
The man of God further noted that Christmas reminds brethren that they are bearers of God with the missionary privilege and duty of conveying the peace of Jesus to those around them
“The Lord wants us to remain instruments of peace and carriers of good news through sacrifice, love, humility and commitment to His services”. He added
The Catholic Priest further frowned at the manner christmas had suffered degrading descriptions, explaining that the day was nothing else, but a Holy day.
