Buba Colloquium sensitizes Policy Makers, Stakeholders, Students on impactful Climate Change.

The Daniel Buba Colloquium today, held its 1st Maiden Edition at Taraba State University Jalingo, sensitizing Policy Makers, Stakeholders and Students on the need for impactful Climate Change.
The Host, Vice Chancellor Taraba State University, Professor Sunday Paul Bako in his opening remarks, welcome everyone to the programme and specially, commended Dr. Daniel Buba for organizing such great programme aimed at fostering conversations on the need for impactful Climate Change.
He stated that the theme of the programme “The Nature’s Gift and Climate Change: Opportunities for Sustainable Development,” is very timely and apt for Taraba, a State that prides herself as the ‘Nature’s Gift to the Nation emphasizing that, Climate Change affects all spheres of life hence, the need to combat it.
Prof. Bako noted that, the rising Climatic Changes are as a result of man’s mismanagement of the environment adding that, Climate change affects in many ways ranging from Agriculture, Rainfall patterns, disease outbreak both in human and animals including Environmental, Social, Economic and Political implications.
He however, called on all to recognize the many challenges posed by Climate Change and deploy local strategies to address them accordingly.
Similarly, the Convener, Dr. Daniel Buba earlier in his address, welcome all to the event. “The idea of an annual colloquium is borne from my passion to see to platforms that fosters conversations on national development issues and begets meaningful dialogue and solutions on pressing developmental challenges at local, national and or continental levels for obvious benefits.”
Dr. Buba disclosed that the goal of the event was to train/sensitize Policy Makers, Stakeholders as well as Students on global best practices that will further, inspire a more fascinating strategy in addressing Climate Challenges.
“The Maiden Edition will leverage and speak to Taraba’s abundant resources to tackle climate change while beaming the spotlight on the green transformation and sustainable development including green economy, green jobs, as well as opportunities within the implementation/value chain of the Paris Agreement- so Tarabans/Nigerians can become more aware and take advantage,” he said.
Also in his remarks, the Director Climate Change, Mr. Lazarus Ahmadu who represented the Honorable Commissioner, Taraba State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Haj. Aishat Barde noted that climate change affects every fabrics of human circle stressing that, the State’s Natural resources have gone because of massive deforestation.
He further emphasized that planting of trees will help a lot in addressing issues, lauding His Excellency Dr. Agbu Kefas for developing a Climate Change Policy Action.
He also commend the General Faransa’s led Task Force for combating deforestation and illegal mining in the State to the barest minimal while calling on Stakeholders and Policy Makers to take decisive action by initiating policies/programmes that will help mitigate climate change for the common good of all.
The event was attended by high profile personalities including Top TSU Management/ students and highlights included presentation of papers/talks, songs and panel discussion including goodwill messages.
