The Commander of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, met with key stakeholders in Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba State to address rising security threats and persistent communal tensions across several communities.

According to the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lt Mohammed Umar, the high-level security meeting, held on Wednesday at the Palace of the Emir of Ibi, brought together community leaders, government officials, and sister security agencies to deliberate on issues undermining peace in the area.

Top concerns raised included the infiltration of criminal elements from neighbouring states, farmland disputes, illegal crop harvesting, and unresolved chieftaincy issues in Dampar, Tapga, Sarkin Kudu, and Gidan Kiye—developments that have led to loss of lives and destruction of property.

In attendance were the Emir of Ibi, His Royal Highness Alhaji Abubakar Salihu Danbauro; Chairman of Ibi LGA, Emmanuel Ubandoma; district heads, local chiefs, and representatives of security agencies.

Addressing the gathering, the Brigade Commander urged all stakeholders to recommit to peacebuilding and condemned the growing reports of individuals obstructing farmers from harvesting their crops.

He described such acts as “provocative and capable of igniting violence,” warning that those responsible would face decisive action.

He further reminded traditional rulers and community leaders of their responsibility to maintain peace within their domains, noting that security agencies would not hesitate to act against anyone instigating conflict.
