The Wurkum Chiefdom has commended the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) for its decisive intervention in restoring peace and stability in crisis-affected communities of Karim Lamido Local Government Area, Taraba State.

A high-powered delegation led by Mr. Iliya Idris, representative of the Chief of Wurkum, visited the Brigade Headquarters in Jalingo on 20 November 2025 to express the community’s appreciation for the military’s role in calming tensions between the Shomo and Wurkum tribes.

Mr. Idris said the Army’s swift and professional response helped prevent the communal dispute from escalating into a larger conflict, noting that troops deployed under the 6 Brigade successfully stabilised flashpoints, especially Usmanu Village, which had witnessed heightened tensions.

He praised the Brigade’s impartiality, continuous monitoring of the situation, and commitment to promoting dialogue among affected groups, saying these efforts restored public confidence and enabled residents to return to their homes and livelihoods without fear.

According to him, “the Wurkum community remains deeply grateful for the military’s neutrality and dedication to enforcing law and order,” adding that normal socio-economic activities have begun to pick up across previously troubled areas.

He assured the Brigade of the community’s readiness to cooperate with security agencies to sustain the gains already achieved.

The delegation also offered condolences to the Nigerian Army over the passing of Brigadier General M. Uba, describing his death as a painful national loss and praying for the repose of his soul.

In his remarks, the Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, thanked the delegation for the visit and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to defending all communities without bias.

He attributed the relative peace in Karim Lamido and other parts of Taraba State to cooperation among security agencies, traditional institutions, the state government, and residents who continue to share useful intelligence.

General Uwa emphasized that the Brigade will continue to uphold professionalism, fairness, and respect for human rights while fostering an environment where peace and development can thrive.

He urged community leaders and youths to remain law-abiding, embrace peaceful dispute resolution, and support ongoing peace-building efforts across the state.
