ENDSARS: Taraba youth commissioner condemns Lekki killings, urges youth to stay calm

The Taraba state commissioner for youth and sports Alhaji Ibrahim Adam Imam on Wednesday condemned Tuesday night killing of #ENDSARS protesters at Lekki toll gate in Lagos State and the widespread violence building up from the Nationwide protest.

Imam who spoke to our correspondent via phone also called on the youth to thread the path of peace and meaningful engagement with the government to ensure that their demands are met and the country becomes a better place.

The youth ambassador and former Minority Leader of the state House of Assembly cautioned that if the protest is allowed to deteriorate to this level where people are killed indiscriminately and property destroyed, the whole country may be heading towards total breakdown of law and order.

Imam insisted that “we don’t have any other country to call ours. Nigeria is the only country we have and we must all work together to build the Nigeria of our dream, where human rights are respected, people feel the sense of belonging and are taken care of by their government. We all look forward to a Nigeria where every Nigerian life matters equally. We all pray for a country where competence and merit become yardstick for measuring suitability and not who one knows. We need a Nigeria we can all be proud of when we are outside this country. But we can not get all of these through violence. We must learn our lessons from other countries where violence was allowed to take over the country. They are set back by several decades. We can not allow that to happen here” he said.

He said that in Taraba, the state government was committed to youth empowerment through skills acquisation programs and sporting activities so as to make sure that they are too gainfully engaged to resort to violence and crimes.
