The Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade Headquarters in Jalingo on Thursday held a colourful send-off ceremony in honour of the outgoing Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Captain Olubodunde Oni.

The event, which took place at the C2C Conference Hall in Jalingo, drew top security chiefs, journalists, colleagues, and friends, all gathered to celebrate the remarkable service and contributions of Captain Oni during his tenure.

In his remarks, the Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, described Captain Oni as a dedicated, professional, and patriotic officer whose approach to duty was marked by excellence.

“Captain Oni has distinguished himself among his peers. His service has been exceptional, especially in strengthening civil-military relations.

“His proactive and cordial engagement with the media significantly enhanced the visibility of the Brigade’s operations across Taraba State.”General Uwa stated.

While noting that redeployments are part of routine military structure, General Uwa admitted that Captain Oni’s departure would leave a gap, particularly within the Public Relations unit.

He also used the occasion to congratulate two officers who were recently promoted to the rank of Captain, urging them to emulate the high standards set by their predecessor.

Also speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Taraba State Council, Comrade Matthew Eliud Jen, lauded Captain Oni for building a strong relationship between the army and the media.

“He is one of the few officers who truly understood the importance of media collaboration in modern security communication. Journalists in the state are proud to have worked closely with such an outstanding officer.” He said.

In his farewell speech, Captain Oni expressed gratitude to Brigadier General Uwa for his leadership and mentorship, and to his fellow officers and journalists for their cooperation and support.

“I am deeply humbled by the goodwill shown here today. The successes we achieved in public relations were not mine alone, it was a team effort, anchored on unity, purpose, and a shared commitment to peace and national service.” Oni said.

The event also featured goodwill messages from heads of other security agencies, all of whom commended Captain Oni’s professionalism, integrity, and spirit of collaboration.
