Taraba ASUSS, Celebrates Cultural Day,Urges Members to prioritize culture.

The Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools, Women Commission, Taraba State Chapter, celebrated her Variety and Cultural Day in Jalingo, in the wake of Teachers Day celebration slated for Saturday while calling on Members and Tarabans by extension to prioritize culture for human and capital development.
Chairperson of the Women Commission Mrs.Felicia Luka in her opening stated that, the aim of organizing the event was to teach school children the beauty of cultural interplays and the need to embrace and respect one another’s culture for peaceful coexistence.
She maintained that the event was the first in the state while calling on teachers to live up to their roles thereby building children who will further, build the society into a pleasant place worthy to live in.
Meanwhile, the ASUSS chairman, Taraba State Chapter, Comrade Sule Abasu in his remarks, commended the women wing of the union for throwing such a remarkable event aimed at showcasing the beautiful cultures of Taraba State which marks the the first in the history of the union in the state.
He noted that the core aims/objectives of the ASUSS are to checkmate the activities of teachers, advance their welfare and develop them so that they will in turn, develop the children who will transform Taraba and Nigeria with the discipline and training.
Mr. Sule however, reiterated the union’s commitment and dedication to developing children through education and other possible means in Taraba State and the Nation.
“I thank the women wing for this great initiative aimed at showcasing the beautiful cultures of Taraba State by our children. We will continue to collaborate efforts to develop our children through education and other possible means for a better society,” he stated.
The Honorable Commissioner of Education, Dr Augustina Godwin who also spoke at the event in the capacity of guest speaker, lauded the Women Commission for organizing such a historic event to showcase the various cultures of Taraba State in love and peace, stressing that, women are mothers and even in schools, they remain mothers.
She emphasized that education is a holistic approach towards human development adding that, reading and writing in class is one part of education and merging culture with the western education is another wonderful way of enhancing human development among the children and Youth.
“I thank the ASUSS, Women Commission for organizing this kind of historical event. Our culture is a very important aspect of our identities and the good aspects of it, makes us unique as Africans and Taraba people but it is sad that in this our modern world, consciously or unconsciously, many of us are throwing away our good culture so for you our own mothers in the secondary schools to put up this kind of event I say congratulations to you.
“Education is a holistic approach towards human development and merging our culture with the western education is a wonderful way of enhancing human development among our children and Youth,” she stated.
She however maintained that education is the first baby of Gov. Agbu Kefas, while reiterating the unwavering commitment of the Kefas administration in making deliberate policies that will guarantee a better education for all Taraba children and youth because every child deserves the right to a better education.
In their separate remarks, the Commissioner for Social Justice and Re-integration, Dr Filister Irarimam Musa who was represented by her Special Assistant on Research Development, Mr. Tachia Joseph, Commissioner for Digital Economy and Innovation, Hon. Nonso Gideon, former Commissioner of Basic Education, Mr. Johannes Jigem all appreciated the women for reviving culture among school children and Youth adding that, it will go a long way in addressing many challenges in Taraba State and beyond.
The event was attended by past and serving government functionaries among others while high points of the event captured unveiling of cultural delicacies, cultural dances/displays and more.
