By Jethro Yerga, Jalingo

Youths under the umbrella of Wurkun Youth Association of Nigeria, WUYAN has cried out to the relevant authorities to end the extra-judicial killings of people of Usmanu Village, Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State and bring perpetrators of the heinous act to book

The group in a World Press Conference held in Jalingo, disclosed that alot of mischief have been carried out against their people in the recent times ranging from community attacks resulting to communal clashes, incessant and tragic killing of notable sons of the land especially the killing of the Usmanu Village Head, Alh Abubakar Wali among others

The Spokesman of the group, chairman of the WUYAN, Hussaini Audu Zuppai, who lamented the ceaseless killing of the people, wondered why security agencies have continue to fail in their responsibility of faithfully fixing their challenges and equally addressing the people and the general public on their findings on security issues affecting the area despite their intelligent professional prowess

“The Wurkun race is disciplined and with patience and tolerance yet; our simplicity is often misconceived for our weaknesses. This is premise on the fact that we have high respect and due regards for constituted authorities. That is why we feel the killing of our people particularly in Usmanu is so alarming with no single person ever brought to book from the investigation of the constituted authorities

“It is on record that sometimes on 15th November, 2023, a person who was arrested in possession of live ammunition was detained and his personal details and information including confessional statement was extracted.

“He was forcefully released from custody by mobs that vandalized the Usmanu Police Outstation and subsequently attacked and killed one Barasu Salisu. The Nigerian Police are yet to effect any arrest or make official publication in that regard and nothing is being done to address the unfortunate incidence”. The chairman stated .

He expressed fear that the ugly situation which seems not to stop soon might consume the entire people of the village if not brought to an end.

Hussaini recalled the tragic killing of Rilwanu Abubakar Wali on 11th January, 2024 in Usmanu Village and the most recent killing of the Village Head of Usmanu on 2nd June, 2024 and called on the Commissioner of Police in the state to as a matter of urgency, address the people on the killings or take glaring appropriate actions in that regard, adding that “Justice should not just be done, but must manifestly and evidently be seen to have been done”.

Applauding the giant strides of the executive governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas towards ensuring a long lasting peace in the state, Mr Hussaini appealed to the governor to facilitate deployment of security forces to Usmanu Community to safeguard lives and property of the people
