Govt did not interfere with Taraba NULGE elections- Commissioner.

By Mohammed Tikka.

Following reactions from the just concluded National Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, elections in the Taraba state, the Commissioner for Works who was former NULGE President in the state, Hon Moseh Luka has denied the alleged interference of Government in the process.

Hon Moseh Luka, Commissioner of Works Taraba state.

Hon Moseh was responding to the allegations by one of the contestants, Comrade Daniel Edwenya Maigoge who said the Commissioner and other government officials influenced the process thereby denying him his rights during the process.

The Commissioner who spoke to our reporter in Jalingo said that the Association handles it activities as a body and whatever decision they make, they are responsible for.

“There was no interference or involvement of government or myself in the NULGE elections process. The decision to reopen the portal by was not influenced by anyone. If the SEC makes a decision, that decision is also binding and can stand.

“That aside I can tell you that the election was free and fair. We had winners and losers. Both sides must accept what has become and remain patient for the good of the Union. they should embrace who God has chosen and move on.

“As for those emphasizing on zoning, I can tell you that as someone who has been in NULGE that it is unconstitutional. Also Financial members can contest irrespective of their position in the NULGE” the Commissioner clarified.

Comrade Daniel in an interview with our reporter had earlier alleged that the former NULGE President, Comr Moseh had connived with other officials to deprive him of his right during the elections.

He also said that the NULGE registration portal was re-opened after the scheduled date for closure thereby allowing others to purchase forms which according to him is unconstitutional.

“To me, no election was conducted because what transpired is against NULGE constitution. The person I’m contesting with Comr Yakubu Buba had officially stepped down for me. By NULGE rules, once they have closed selling of forms, the portal shouldn’t be open. Only two of us purchased the form for President and it was closed.

“On the day of the elections, I was there but because of the conspiracy I was sent out of the hall by the National President. I was not allowed to vote.

‘The commissioner for works and others met me and they told me to step down for Wakili and I’ll be compensated. I didn’t contest with Wakili and as for as I am concerned no election was held. I don’t know how they maneuvered and came about that election.

“All I am saying is that the national office should look into the issue and swear me in as the state president. We are preparing to go the industrial court to take further actions as it stands now” He said.
